# Experiences that respond to the people in the room.

> Interactive & Physical Experiences by Dream Awake Labs. XR games, immersive worlds, location-based entertainment, interactive characters, and the venue infrastructure that runs them for groups, tested with real hardware and real people.

The problem: Interactive and mixed-reality ideas are easy to pitch and hard to judge until someone stands in the room and tries them on real hardware, and once they work, staff need a way to run them for a group.

Who it is for: For venues, studios, and brands that want a room, a headset, or a character to respond to the people in front of it.

## A game that fits the room it is played in

Puttscape is mixed-reality mini-golf: the headset scans the room and a generator fits a hole to the floor it finds, so the same game works in rooms of any size and shape. We moved the game to AR Foundation so one Unity codebase builds for Meta Quest 3 and Android XR, and built the procedural generator, hand tracking, putter physics, and theme packs on top.

For venue play we built the native client library, shipped as a Unity package, that connects the game to Spatial Venue, our venue server, which keeps the ball, scores, and course in one session and gives staff a live status page and a command-line control tool.

- Puttscape gameplay from the player’s view: a white ball on a green course with wooden rails, a stack of barrels, a character standing at the far end, and the putter in the foreground. (A hole in play: the course is laid out on the floor the headset scanned.): https://dreamawakelabs.com/work/mixed-reality-mini-golf/gameplay.webp
- Diagram in three steps: the headset maps the floor and its edges, a generator lays out a hole that fits the scanned room, and players putt a virtual ball on the real floor. One codebase builds for Meta Quest 3 and Android XR, and a venue client connects the game to the Spatial Venue server. (How the game works. ## How it works

- [Spatial Venue](https://dreamawakelabs.com/technology#venue-runtime): keeps every headset in the room in one server-authoritative session and gives staff one view of the floor.
- [XR foundation](https://dreamawakelabs.com/technology#xr-foundation): is the Unity starting point that builds for Meta Quest 3 and Android XR from one codebase.
- [DASP](https://dreamawakelabs.com/technology#dasp): is the open protocol designed so lighting, sound, projection, and robots can follow the experience as device nodes.
- [Venue devices](https://dreamawakelabs.com/technology#venue-devices): discovers the headsets on the venue network and reports battery, tracking, and frame rate to the status page.
- [Spatial OS](https://dreamawakelabs.com/technology#spatial-os): is designed to run walls, floor, ceiling, and a robot host as one experience when a room is the stage.

## What we can build

- **XR and mixed reality**: Unity and Unreal experiences for Meta Quest, Android XR, and Apple Vision Pro from one codebase.
- **Procedural worlds**: Courses, levels, and layouts generated to fit a scanned room or to change between visits.
- **Venue infrastructure**: A server that keeps every headset in one session and gives staff one view of the floor.
- **Interactive characters**: Characters with a persona and a voice that respond to guests, on a screen, a projection, or a robot.
- **Show control and robotics**: Lighting, sound, projection, and robots that follow the experience through an open control protocol.
- **Operator tools**: A command-line control tool and a live status page for the people who run the floor, plus simulated players for load tests.

## Projects

- [God’s Eye View at The Rectangle](https://dreamawakelabs.com/work/gods-eye-view-rectangle.md): A concept for exploring the Earth across a room through a voice-guided globe, public data, interactive projection, and a robot guide.
- [Puttscape: Mixed-Reality Mini-Golf](https://dreamawakelabs.com/work/mixed-reality-mini-golf.md): Mixed-reality mini-golf on Meta Quest 3 and Android XR from one codebase, with holes generated from the scanned room and a venue client that connects the game to our Spatial Venue server.
- [The Rectangle](https://dreamawakelabs.com/work/the-rectangle.md): A working creative space in Santa Cruz for DJ rehearsals, media production, and XR experiments, supported by an agent-ready booking website.
- [Spatial Venue](https://dreamawakelabs.com/work/venue-runtime.md): A Rust server that runs shared sessions for several headsets in the same room, with a live status page, a command-line control tool, and a DASP control socket for automation.

## Experience pilot

Who it is for: A venue, studio, or brand with a room and an audience, and an interactive idea that has not been tried with real people.

The problem: Interactive and mixed-reality ideas are easy to pitch and hard to judge until someone stands in the room and tries them on real hardware.

What you get: One room or one interaction, built and tested with a small group of guests on the hardware the venue has or we bring. You get a short report on what worked, what did not, and what a full build would need.

What you bring:

- The space, or the hardware the experience should run on
- One contact who can make decisions about the room and the content
- A window of a few days for the test with guests
- Any existing content: characters, art, music, a brand guide

What you learn: Whether the interaction holds attention and runs on the hardware, how staff run it, and what a full build would need.
